Why the Unicorn, the most marvelous creation of Man's fertile imagination?
Why this symbol of strength and purity, of nobility and majesty?
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, more than any other among mortal men,
probably came the nearest to being a truly magical creature.
His music alone stands as a testimony to strength, purity, nobility and majesty. We would all be poorer and sadder without him,
just as we woud all be poorer and sadder without unicorns.
The unicorn symbolizes all that is pure and noble. In England, he is a symbol of kings. In medieval times, he was a symbol of Jesus christ. To lonely young women, he is the symbol of true love. To children and the innocent, he is a symbol of magic and tenderness. It is said that the unicorn appears at the birth of children, or at the deathbed of someone pure in heart.
All of us can remember a time when we were very young and believed in unicorns.
In the film "Amadeus", Mozart wears the costume of the unicorn,
while being stalked by an unholy enemy who would stop his music and claim some of it for his own. And yet the unicorn must invariably triumph.
I have given Mozart the honor of having the gift of the Spirit of the Unicorn. When you see a unicorn, think of him.
